E-MEDIA

INSTRUCTIONAL
A. Motivation
For the first time we open this webpage, we are really amazing to see the home page which are suitable for children in age below 12 years old. The program that had been provided inside the webpage are really provoke attention to those who see it because of the use of color, brightness, sound, graphics, animation throughout the program. For this range age of children which are also a student, it is very interesting because in this age their love to see colorful color, cartoon characters and these will make them enjoy and happy. Furthermore, the program also provided games which are very interesting to join. Students will enjoy the game and in the same time gain some knowledge. This program does not provide any competition with other students, the computer and clock but it is only with the student herself. This can encourage the students to play with full attention without thinking of their challengers. Other than that, this program can maintain student’s confidence by giving encouragement. When the student chosen a wrong answers, the program had been setup to give encouragement to the student to make another try. For example, the program will use a word like “Try again” or “Good try”
Moreover, this program provided a level of student control. If they want to hear the instruction again, they can click at the repeat button to hear it and if they do not want to hear any sound, just click at silent button. Besides that, the program gives partial information, elements of surprise, stimulating and desire to know in each student. The student will be so excited. Next, students also can be encourage to envision themselves in an imaginary context or event where they can use themselves in a imaginary context or event where they can use information they are learning. Sometimes, they need to imagine that they are the character in the program so that they can solve the problem and learn how to do it. Some of the games in the program are clearly stated the goals which are good where by the students know his or her level of ability and understanding. The system in the program doesn’t take note of the time to complete the activity. This allowed the students to take time to think carefully and decrease number of mistakes.
B. Interaction and Feedback
In this section, we had determined and identified that the program reinforce the correct answer with positive feedback. Every time the students can answer the questions correctly, the program will congratulate the students with nice feedback that will give the students encouragement. On the other hand, if the students answer the questions wrongly the program will explain why and ask the students to try again until they find the correct one. This program will never say something that can make the students feel upset and doesn’t want to try again. The program does supply the correct response to the students and doesn’t evaluate the student’s answers.

C. Goal Orientation
All the activities had their own goals. Goals are very important because from here we can know either what we wanted to tell the students had been achieve or not. The program wants the students to know the basic information and knowledge that they have to know in their age. The program provides the simple task for students to complete it in order to attract the student’s attention towards learning and gaining knowledge. For this program, they use more colorful cartoon and provide more activities like painting, music, stories and other to deliver the knowledge. The program uses many method or type to achieve their goals.
D. Learner Control
This program allow student to be active, collaborative and reflective in knowledge construction because all the activities which are provided need the student to be an active person. The students are invite to join all the activities provided and learn it step by step. The learners or students are able to discover the program freely because it doesn’t have any limitation and conditions. This is advantages for the students who come from the middle or low family to access it. Furthermore, the student can exist the program at any time their want. They don’t have to wait until the end of the session to exist it. Besides that, they don’t have to do any registration to involve in the program. As they want to access, they can access it at anytime and anywhere they want as long there is internet connection and quit anytime they want.
E. Interactivity
The weakness of this program is the student can’t contact other students in the same program through email or chat. However this situation is more privacy. Other students can access the same program but not share it together. Although, the program can’t contact other student but if there are problem when access this program, there is a contact person and address available for technical help.
CURRICULUM
A. Accuracy and Fairness of content
In this part, in our opinion the content fit well into the local school curriculum at the grade level for which it is intended. The program was setup with full of color and cartoon for students in 5 – 12 years old. Other than that, our kids right now are more interesting to watch Disney’s cartoon character which had been use in this program. All information given is also factually correct. All the diagrams and other visual aids included in the program were prepared in well designed and technically accurate. This is suitable for young children to understand some information with the relevant picture. They know something directly throughout the picture given. The content is delivered according to main ideas or the big picture and followed with supporting ideas. For example, they show the picture of guitar and it is support with the sound of the guitar itself. For certain activities such as storytelling, the program requires learner to complete certain base tasks before they are allowed to move on proceeding through the content. But there is one problem. For local students, we already know that, some of them quit trouble in English language. They may be cannot understand the instructions given. There are no glossary or vocabulary words for them to refer. They may need someone to help them to complete the task. But they may be some activities even though they don’t know what it is meaning but they can understand it by the picture given.
COSMETICS
A. Color
Yes, the color can enhance the impact and legibility of the screen. We already know that the children love anything that is colorful. This can make students become more interesting to access the program. They become so excited to learn and doing task given. In West education, they believe that the children start to learn something with using color.
B. Text Layout
There is no scrolling when students want to read the information. All the information was state on the pages. For this age, the students still don’t know the function of this scrolling, so it is not necessary to have this in this program. The fonts that had been chosen are legible. It is clear and attractive. Easy for student to read it. In our opinion, the sound used not distraction from the main point. It is completely not disturbing the learning process. The program had set up where and which page needs the sound and no sound. If the students don’t want to hear the sound or music, they can click on the silent sound button.
C. Use of Hypertext
There are no other links in this program. All the activities are in the program only.

D. Screen Layout / Graphics / Animation / Sound
The advantage of this program is each screen can include a well laid out combination of text and graphics or animation which work together to make a particular point clears. This screen layout may help the students be more understanding and get the information clearly. As we know, graphic is a drawing or painting that making information more attractive. Usually, the graphics will help visualization o a particular event, place or object. Besides that, the graphics help memorization of key information. Students will strongly agree if the graphics is an aid for understanding. It is same with the animation. Animation can be function as a motivator through humor. It can invite reaction or input and minimize static boredom. Students love to see and look animation. They will be happier and avoid tension when in a learning process. In this program, with the sound add. It makes the students not bored with the additional sound. It makes them be more alert and focus on what they are doing.
E. Menus and Icons / Interface Design / Instructions / Games Format
There are many menus and icons in this program. It can provide an intuitive clear interface. There are various options available. Students need to choose what they want to do first. The menu can be seeing by the students directly and clearly. Then, for the orientation information, there is a welcome screen, offering an overview, basic tips and links to help the students. It gives briefly overview about what is the program all about. The welcome screen will not go away when the learner is no longer new the program. It will be static until the learner exits this program. In each activity in this program, there are instructions that available. But in this program, the instruction was been telling by the sound of the cartoon character that students had choose at the first program. If the users don’t get it, the instruction can be hear again by click on the button given. The instructions are clear, complete and concise. The students don’t have any option of bypassing the instructions. They need to hear the instruction first before doing any task. But for the introduction section, it can be skipping. This program also provides game. This is to testing the student’s skill and understanding. The game has sound educational objectives that help the students learn some new skill or knowledge. The game also encourages the development of a positive self image. They will be more focus on doing their task. They try to find the solution by themselves without any helping from the others person. There is no violence in this game. It is for fun and it is all about the education. The game is fun because it is testing student’s mind and full of color and cartoon.
TECHNICAL
A. Record Keeping / Ease of Use / Speed of Access / Personalization
In technical part, we identified that the system is easy to use because it do not require specialized training to operate this system. It was easy for students in 6 to 12 years old to access this e-media at home. Then, we can access the homepage faster and quickly without have to wait for long time. It can be open efficiently. These programs are not able to show the student’s name. This program is being used by many students in local and national country. So, it is difficult to set up the system that can display student’s name for all over country.

Name of Book: Mathematics Textbook for Year 1

Organization

After doing discussion and evaluation, we had identified and determine organization of the textbook that we had chosen are good and suitable for students in Year 1 use it. Firstly, the textbook provide a useful table of contents and glossary. This table is useful to the students refer the pages that they want to open. For this age, students may have difficulty in order to understand English and glossary are very important to make the student understand the meaning of the word. Moreover, the process of learning will be continuing at home even though there are no teachers to teach them. However, there is no index because young students do not need and know how to use it. Besides that, table of contents show a logical arrangement and development of subject. By this arrangement, the students can easily find the topic and related information about it.
Secondly, the textbook are also uniform in appearance and content layout throughout the book as well as within each chapter. It is going continuously and synchronization in each chapter. This is good for young children to understand the information step by step. The advantages of the textbooks are in every chapter, they are briefly provided some introductions at the front topic and summaries at the last page of all each topic. It is clear and comprehensive in order to make the students know what they want to learn and what they had learned.
Other than that, all the pages in the textbooks are numbered. When the teacher asks them to open certain page, students will refer to the number of page easily and quickly. They don’t have to count it by open the page one by one and at the same time they also learn the subject which is mathematic. However, the textbook doesn’t contain any references, bibliographic and other resources. Usually, students in secondary school will use this in order to get more information in understanding the related topic. But for Year 1 students, it is not necessary and important to them. They still don’t how to use it yet.
Content
For the content of this textbook, it meet local and national standards. This textbook is using English languages because Malaysian government wanted sciences and mathematics teaching in English. So, the textbook can be use either in local or national school. Besides that, the content of the book is accurate and up-to date. This edition is the latest which had been published by Ministry of Education with association by Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka. The authors of this book had been chosen because of their knowledge and experience in teaching and publishing book. The content in the textbook are not supported by other textbooks that students have or will use. All the information given in this textbook is complete, good and doesn’t need any extra information to understand the topic. For students in Year One, there will be difficult for them in understand the language. They are not familiar with English language in their life. This will be new experience for them to understand the new language. So, to fulfill the needed of the Ministry in order to teach sciences and mathematics in English, the author use the simple and appropriate language that is clear and grammatically correct in the contents. Student can easily learn and use it. Moreover, the textbook contain age appropriate reading level.
After completing one topic, there will be some exercise or quizzes at the end of the topic. The purpose is to make sure the students understand what their have learn and make them more understand. If they can easily answer the question correctly, that mean they had really understand about the topic and what their teacher had taught them. The lessons linked to other subject area like sciences. As we learn or study sciences, the students also using mathematics application like plus, subtract, multiply, divided and many more. Other than that, the using of the textbook will engage students in active learning because there are some activities like singing, work in a group and many more which need the students to move or doing something else besides writing and also appealing to a wide range of abilities and interests. However, the lessons didn’t encourage higher level thinking because the users of the textbook are only in Standard One. Last but not least, the textbook can be used for several years as long as the contents are fulfilling the need of students in teaching and learning process in Standard One.
Physical Aspects
The textbook that we had chosen had been divided into two parts which are Mathematics Part 1 and Mathematics Part 2. The size is only 25cm x 19cm and it is light which is easy for students in young age to carry it. The textbook are full with illustrations, tables, figures and pictures that will encourage and attract the young children to read and learn it. The colors and fonts chosen are good enough to attract and grab the student’s attention. Besides that, the fonts are clear and the size that had been use is suitable for students in Standard One. Moreover, the textbook are appealing to the students need and all the illustrations that are used in the book are representing all of ethnicity, sex, socioeconomic and many more. Other than that, all the illustrations, tables, figures and many more are functional because it makes the process of learning and understanding more easy and fun. However, the binding, pages and cover are not really durable because it can easily tatter.
